Chairman's message to SAMVOA members

Hello, I extend a warm welcome to all veterans, their families and friends.

I am Geoff Mitchell, in 1973 I did my National Service in Potchefstroom, 3SAI and then joined the
South African Irish Regiment for my camps, finishing in 1984 as a Coy. Quartermaster. My Childhood
and young adult life was spent in Johannesburg, then went farming in Natal and moved to Australia
in 2007.

It is very important to me to remember the sacrifice paid by all the men and women who served
South Africa in the defence of our country. Therefore, I am passionate about the cause of the South
African Veteran, from all arms of the defence force, both SADF and SANDF who are now living in
Australia/ New Zealand and our surrounding areas. The pride which we feel for our Corps, respective
regiments and units are very special, and we need to promote their image in our new home. It is also
very moving to me to be able to march in parades and lay wreaths to remember our fallen and past
veterans to whom we owe so much. Being able to march under the SAMVOA banner will be an
honour and a privilege and I am really looking forward to this.

I would like to promote good fellowship and camaraderie Throughout our region and help veterans
get into contact with other veterans nearby and create their own clubs.
I encourage veterans and their families to contact us if the need arises or if you would just like a
chat.

With warm heartfelt regards to you all,

Geoff Mitchell
